COLD AND FLU SEASON
It is that time of year once again.  Cold and flu season begins as early as October and lasts well into April.  While there is no cure for the common cold or for the flu, there are many things you can do to help stay healthy. Talk to your doctor about the flu vaccine, and here are some daily tasks that all of us can do to promote well being.
Wash Your Hands!  Hand washing is one of the most important and easiest steps you can take toward staying healthy.  Wash with warm water and soap for several minutes frequently throughout the day.
Do Not Share cups or silverware with others.
Boost Your Immune System by getting plenty of rest, decreasing your stress, eating a well balanced diet, and cutting back on unhealthy habits.
Clean High-Contact items like doorknobs, telephones, and faucets.
Exercise!  Moderate physical activity has positive effects on your immune system.  There for regular exercise translates to fewer colds.

When you are sick, stay home so you do not inadvertently infect others.  If you have to sneeze or cough do so into a tissue or your sleeve or upper arm.  To feel better get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids, and use a humidifier.  Eat foods that will help you heal, like chicken soup, warm beverages, foods high in zinc (chicken, meat, peanuts, etc.), dairy products (yogurt with probiotics, cheese, etc.), garlic, and fresh ginger root.

If you are feeling aweful, if your symptoms worsen or if your symptoms last a long time it is always wise to contact your physician. Stay well, and as always feel free to contact me in the Health Office at any time with questions and/or concerns.
